The title belt in this photo appears to be the belt that would go on to become the NWA United States championship and later the very first World Wide Wrestling Federation (WWWF – WWF- WWE) heavyweight title held by the Nature Boy.

Maple Leaf Gardens, Toronto, Ontario Canada 1956 Whipper Watson with the ‘Canuck Commando’ on Buddy Rogers. Watson had just lost the NWA title back to Lou Thesz 3 weeks earlier. When Rogers had made the challenge for the match, watson was still champion but would lose the title to Thesz the next day.
The Nature Boy and Watson would finally meet for the NWA World Title at Maple Leaf Gardens in 1961 when Buddy defended his championship winning via disqualification.
Rogers would make 8 successful title defenses at the Maple Leaf Gardens before losing the title to Lou Thesz there on January 24, 1963

Due to injury Jay Youngblood would fill in for Steamboat and the big news “Mr Wrestling” Tim Woods returning to action to get his revenge on Rogers and his army.
